昨年末頃にインド中で若者を中心に大流行した曲「Why This Kolaveri Di」のビデオ。今年４月にインドで公開されるタミル語映画「3」の曲で、主演の俳優ダヌーシュ（Dhanush）が自ら歌っています。その人気は凄まじかったようで、BBCなど海外主要メディアでも取り上げられています。今ユーチューブを見たら、11月のアップロードから現在までの再生回数は4000万回近くとなっています。
ダヌーシュはタミル語圏の南部を中心に活動していましたが、Kolaveri Diのヒットでインド全土で（そして海外のインド・コミュニティでも）一気にスターダムにのし上がり、24日のニュースでは「いよいよ（ヒンディー語映画の）ボリウッド進出」と報じられています。昨年末に日本の野田首相がインドを訪問した際も、シン首相と野田首相が出席したディナー・パーティーにも招待されたみたい（情報元はこちら）。ちなみに奥さんは「3」の監督で、タミル語映画のスーパースター、ラジニカーントの娘のアイシュワリヤ。（ビデオにも映っています。知的な感じ。）
曲は、「3」の音楽ディレクター（21歳。。。、この人もビデオに）が５分で書き上げ、それにダヌーシュがその場で歌詞を付けたとのこと。歌の内容は女の子にふられた男の子についてですが、ダヌーシュはどこかのインタビューで、「この曲はあっという間に完成したし、歌詞にそれほど重きを置かないように」と言っていました。非常にキャッチーなメロディーで、また歌い方が面白いので（単語が全て-uで終わるのとか）、皆が中毒になるのがよく分かります！
My Indian friend told me about this video last year, and for some time I was addicted to this song. It’s a song from an upcoming film called “3” (to be shown in April 2012), and written (lyrics) & sung by a Tamil actor called Dhanush, who plays the lead role. It apparently went viral, became so popular in India as well as overseas Indian communities. The tune is so catchy that it sticks to your head after listening to it just once.
The film is directed by Aishwarya (who is married to Dhanush, and who is also the daughter of the king Rajinikanth!). She’s in the video too. I don’t go into details but you can find out more here on BBC. According to Hindustan Times, this video pushed Dhanush to the stardom in all of India, and he will do his first Bollywood (Hindi) film (article here).
